Taking a Stand Against Galamsey: Queen Mothers' Platform Urges Collaboration and Policy Dialogue

One of the strategic allies of the Queen Mothers’ Platform, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) organized a program for some selected members of the Queen Mothers’ Platform. The program was dubbed “Our Voice on Galamsey”. It was organized on 30th November 2022 at Capital View Hotel, Koforidua.

There were presentations on Galamsey by the Academia, Ghana Association of Small-Scale Miners, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Executive Director of Rights for Youth and Disability International, a private organization. Participants included KAS country representatives and the selected members of the QMP executives.

The members of the Queen Mothers’ Platform drafted a press statement on Galamsey which stated in summary that all the national level discussions on galamsey have always excluded the Queenmothers. It was emphasized that the Queen Mothers Platform has come to stay as an umbrella institution poised for policy discussions and stakeholder engagements for all the national level decision making. As a result, the President of the Queen Mothers’ Platform on behalf of all the members is ready to collaborate with all the stakeholder institutions for policy dialogue on various issues that affect the country for which galamsey is no exception. The participants are overwhelmed by the negative impacts of galamsey and therefore add their voice ‘Say No To Galamsey’ A call was made for collaborative actions on addressing the issue of galamsey.  A communique was served at the end of the program.
