QMP meets with the Management of Lands Commission in Accra

A delegation from the QMP's National Executives met with the Management Team of the Lands Commission in Ghana on October 29th, 2021. This engagement forms part of the efforts to have Queen mothers' collective rights recognized, respected, and included as a consultative platform for traditional leadership. The meeting provided an opportunity for the Queen mothers to formally introduce themselves to the Lands Commission, seek partnership, and request support for a capacity-building program.

The members of the Management Team from the Lands Commission commented that it is encouraging to see the Queen mothers becoming more conscious of the need to be included in decision-making processes because they are the mothers in the communities. It was emphasized that was the Queen mothers will be involved in programs and be part of engagements organized by the Lands Commission. The Chairman added that this is the first time an organized group of Queen mothers with representatives from all over the country has come to the Commission for dialogue. For this reason, the meeting and as well as participating members will be recorded in the history books of the Commission. The Chairman indicated that the Platform will be involved in all consultations and capacity building will be organized for the Queen mothers on the work of the Commission and on land governance to increase their capacity for engagements.

The Chairman of the National Lands Commission, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, Greater Accra Regional Lands Officer, the Head, Special Project, the Chairman, B/R, the Director, CRD, and the Deputy Director, SMD Lands Commission welcomed the Queen Mothers delegation.
