The National Executive Council Members of the Queen Mothers’ Platform have been documenting cases of abuse and exclusion of Queen mothers as part of their strategies to be able to have documentary evidence of these cases. These will be used to inform engagements with policy actors and other stakeholders who usually do not agree to the fact that Queen mothers are excluded and abused by various platforms for traditional authorities. One such case occurred in the Odumase Paramountcy.

It was reported by the news media and confirmed by the Queen mothers in the traditional area  that the Odumase Traditional Council issued a statement dated 19th May 2020 that the Manya Krobo Paramount Queen Mother, Nana Aplam II has been destooled for non-performance. According to the Council, the destoolment comes about as a result of her failure to perform satisfactorily of the standards of the Manya Krobo Stool and according to the duties and responsibilities of a Paramount Queen mother of the area. It was indicated that, the real reason for the destoolment was a result of the Queen mother getting married to a member of the breakaway division in the traditional area which made the Paramount Chief angry.

The Executive Council members submitted a meeting request letter to the Paramount Chief and the request was met with affirmative response. The visit took place on the 20th July 2020. The delegation was led by the President of the QMP, Nana Amponsah Dokua III, supported by Paramount Queen mothers from Somanya, Ningo, Prampram and two Queen mothers from the Akuapem traditional area. The main discussion points for calling on the Paramount Chief was to understand the issue at hand concerning the destoolment, establish common grounds for resolutions in order for the said Queen mother to be reinstated.

The meeting was successfully done, and the feedback indicated that, the Paramount Chief will give some thoughts to the decision based on the discussion held with the delegation. The delegation on behalf of the QMP believes that, this will yield fruitful results.
