Meeting with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development
The delegation of Queen Mothers Platform, led by Nana Amponsah Dokua III, President of the QMP and the Paramount Queen mother of Osudoku Traditional Area and other members of the National Council Executives, held a meeting with the Honorable Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Honorable Hajia Alima Mahama. They were met with other members from the ministry which included the Chief Director, Administration Director and His Assistant and the Public Relations Officer.
The meeting sought to introduce the QMP to the Ministry to be recognized and be part of consultative discussions in managing the Covid 19, to present the areas proposed for collaboration which involved a five point strategies developed by the members to complement the government’s effort to curb the spread of the pandemic and to establish basis for that collaboration.
The Honorable Minister was excited to have this delegation and the individual contributions all the Queen mothers are doing to curb the pandemic. She added that all the strategies in the proposal are in tune with the government’s efforts. She acknowledged the role of Queen mothers in community engagement and cited the support of some Queen mothers in ensuring the protocols were observed at markets and its closure when people were not observing the protocols. She suggested that the Queen mothers should use the available data to explain the existence of the virus and sensitize community members on the pandemic. It was reiterated that, the meeting is to build a more strategic partnership and the need to be part of all stakeholder engagement such that Queen mothers will be involved in the decision-making processes, among the other strategies detailed in the proposal submitted to the Minister.
It was concluded that, in the next three days, the Minister will review the proposal and communicate with the Executives of the QMP, work with the 10 regional reps of the QMP to distribute sanitizers, thermometer guns and nose masks, Inform the Gender Ministry on what the QMP is doing and the need for collaboration, the strategies from the QMP will be discussed with the Presidential task force for COVID19.
